Head of the Presidential Council meets US president Donald Trump
The head of the presidential council (PC), Fayez Al-Sarraj met on Friday with the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, in Washington.
The meeting, which was attended by senior level officials from both countries, concentrated on US current efforts to fight ISIS and other terrorist groups in Libya.
During the meeting, Al-Sarraj stressed to the US president “his belief in democracy and a civil state as well as the need to unify the military institution under an executive civilian leadership”, according to a statement posted on the Government of National Accord (GNA) Facebook page. President Trump affirmed US support for the GNA “praising Al-Sarraj efforts to achieve security and stability in Libya”.
In addition, The US president welcomed the idea of future cooperation relations between the two countries in various fields. A sentiment reiterated by the head of the GNA calling for “American companies to contribute in investment and economic projects in Libya”.
The head of the PC, Fayez Al-Sarraj met with the US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson separately on Friday morning and the US Defense Secretary, James Mattis at the Pentagon on Thursday.
