Libyan eastern so-called army spokesman: IS terrorists moving to northern Libya
Libya’s east-based self-styled army spokesman, Ahmed Al-Mismari, said on Sunday that Islamic State (IS) terrorists are attempting to move from the south to coastal areas in northern Libya.
Al-Mismari posted on Facebook on Sunday that the terrorist group is attempting from time to time to move in small groups from the desert to coastal areas.
“They have kidnapped some civilians from the area. Our patrol is following up their movements,” Al-Mismari explained.
He also claimed that IS movement comes in a time when Benghazi Defense Brigades (BDB) and the forces allied with the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) are mobilizing and stationing 20 km east of Sirte city.
Meanwhile, according to reports from Sirte, IS militants seized control of an about 100-km area to the east of Sirte – Wadi Al-Ahmar – and have set up checkpoints and started detaining residents in the area already.
Sources from the area reported to local media in Libya on Sunday that IS arrived last Friday in the area after a successful attack on Al-Noufiliya checkpoint killing at least two and wounding over 7 Operation Dignity fighters.
