New banknotes arrive in Tripoli from the UK
The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) said it had received new banknotes of the Libyan dinar printed in the UK on Thursday morning at Mitiga Airport, Tripoli.
The CBL added that money cargo is worth over 20 million dinars and will be sent to all the commercial banks in Libya according to the laws of the Libyan Banking System.
The CBL added that the cargo will be followed by others in the coming period of time in a bid to alleviate the cash crisis in the country and the tension among the citizens, who have been burdened with contentious cash shortages at the banks since last February.
The CBL announced on Wednesday that it would allow every Libyan family member to buy $400 at the CBL official rates (LYD1.42) starting next week and can keep the money in the father’s bank account and cash it out via visa cards or via money transfers outside Libya.
According to the CBL, the move aims at dropping the rates of foreign currencies in the lack market and allowing people to have an alternative solution if they needed to buy foreign currencies.
