Real Madrid drops to second after drawing with Broussia Dortmund
Real Madrid squandered a two-goal second half lead to finish with a 2-2 draw versus Borussia Dortmund in Champions League Group F action on Wednesday night at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.
Dortmund’s late comeback earned the Germans top place in the group, meaning Los Blancos will be the lower seeded team in their Champions League Round of 16 tie when the tournament resumes in February.
Karim Benzema scored in each half to seemingly hand the three points to the hosts, but Dortmund fought back with scores from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and an 88th minute goal from Marco Real to shock the Bernabeu in what was an open, entertaining game of football.
The big news in Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI was James getting the nod over Isco in midfield. Also returning to the line-up was Casemiro ahead of Mateo Kovacic. Otherwise it was the same group of players who earned a late 1-1 draw at Barcelona in the Clasico.
