Barcelona boosted by Iniesta comeback before El Classico
90 Minutes – Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta could return to action for the Catalan giants for Saturday’s El Classico.
Iniesta has been sidelined since straining knee ligaments during Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Valencia in October, but according to Eurosport, the 32-year-old could be ready to take part in arguably the biggest fixture in the world at the weekend.
The news will come as a major boost to the current La Liga champions, who have so far stuttered in their title defence. Their latest results, a 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad and a 0-0 stalemate with Malaga, have left the club six points behind their fierce rivals Real Madrid.
With Barcelona hosting Real on Saturday, the match represents a huge opportunity for Luis Enrique’s side to cut the current points gap between the two teams. With Real beating Sporting Gijon on Saturday thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo brace, Zinedine Zidane’s side have now gone 31 games unbeaten.
The 32-times La Liga winners will be without winger Gareth Bale after the Welshman picked up an ankle injury. The knock will keep him out of action for at least a month, but Barcelona have no such injury worries concerning their forward line.
Despite the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez not hitting the dizzying heights they are capable of in recent weeks, the trio are still widely regarded as the most talented attacking combination in the world, and will be confident of breaking down Real on Saturday, despite the league leaders conceding just 11 goals so far this season in La Liga.
