Haftar has high-profile meetings in Russia
The leader of Operation Dignity, Khalifa Haftar, is currently in Moscow for talks with Russia’s Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss armament support and training.
Haftar was in Moscow in June to discuss weapons supplies, including aircraft spares, and Moscow’s potential role in helping to broker a settlement in Libya.
Last week, Haftar called on the international community to end the arms embargo on Libya, criticising it for hindering the fight against IS.
Two months ago, Libyan ambassador to Riyadh Abdulbasset Al-Badri, a close affiliate of Haftar, was in Moscow to discuss sending arms with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikhail Bogdanov according to Russian daily Izvestia. Sources close to Haftar denied the reports.
