Russia could join fight on terrorism in Libya, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister reveals
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, disclosed Tuesday that his country is ready to consider any requests from Libya for the Russian military taking part in counter-terrorism operations.
“Mikhail Bogdanov also said that, should there be a request from the authorities of Iraq and Libya on Russia’s participation in operations against terrorists on territories of those countries, the Russian leadership would consider them carefully,” the club’s statement read, according to Sputnik.
Russia, however, left the door open by such an announcement as it did not specify which part will be its collaborate from the three Libyan rival governments, though the Government of National Accord (GNA) is the only legitimate one according to the UN-brokered political agreement.
It also did not specify what terrorist group will it fight, is it IS in Sirte or other groups Russia defines as terrorists in Libya.
