High Council of State evacuated over rift with its security guards

The Head of the Libyan High Council of State, Abdelrahman Al-Sweihli, ordered Monday the headquarters of the council be evacuated from all members and employees over recurrent violations and assaults perpetrated by the security guards, who are appointed to protect those members and employees.

The media office of the High Council of State said Al-Sweihli ordered legal action against the those security guards who violated their roles and committed assaults against councilmen or other employees in the headquarters.

“Those who violated the law must be brought to justice and this is how the rule of law presides.” The media office cited Al-Sweihli as saying.

This step comes after many complaints were filed by residents who live nearby the guest palaces area, where the headquarters of the High Council of State is located, against members of the security guard, saying they were extorting bullying them.
