Speaking to Correiere della Sera on Thursday, Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said the Prime Minister Matteo Renzi had nominated Giuseppe Perrone to head the Italian embassy in Tripoli.

Gentiloni said the embassy in Tripoli will open as soon as security situation in the capital improves.

“Italy is about to give a great deal, on different levels. I hope the reopening of the embassy… seals a great cooperation effort,” Gentiloni said.

“Our commitment should not come as a surprise: helping to stabilize Libya is a national priority, from security to immigration,” he continued.
