Former Egyptian President, Mursi, sentenced to life in prison in “spying case”
Ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Mursi has been sentenced to life in prison in a trial centering around alleged spying.
The former leader has been found guilty of espionage and leaking state secrets, according to a report from AP.
Six other defendants in the same case were given death sentences for allegedly passing state secrets to Qatar. They included three journalists who were convicted in absentia.
Mursi was ousted in July 2015 by a military coup which banned his Muslim Brotherhood Movement. He has previously been sentenced to death in a separate trial.
All of the defendants can appeal the verdicts in the latest case to the Egyptian Court of Cessation, the country’s highest civil court.
