UN condemns killing of illegal immigrants in Sabratha
UNSMIL strongly condemns the killing of 15 migrants and asylum seekers in Sabratha.
According to the mission, 11 charred bodies were discovered inside the migrant boat, in addition to four others found on the shore. They called on Libyan authorities to ensure that an independent and transparent investigation takes place in order to identify all perpetrators.
“This attack is a stark reminder of the weak protection faced by migrants and asylum seekers in Libya, and the widespread human rights violations committed by powerful smuggling and criminal networks that need to stop quickly and prosecute,” the UNSMIL said.
